In what is becoming a familiar occurrence Hudson’s Hope, the Emergency Department at the Health Centre is on diversion for the second straight day.
After being on diversion on Friday, the health authority had promised residents that services would be restored Monday morning.
Instead of re-opening, the health authority has updated its new Emergency Department Status website to indicate the Health Centre is expected to re-open Tuesday at 8:30am.
The community of Hudson’s Hope has been significantly impacted recently by Northern Health’s failure to solve a doctor and nursing shortage.
The health authority has said the diversions at Health Centre are a result of an on-going staffing shortage. Northern Health’s inability to attract enough new healthcare workers has plagued the region for the past five years.
The health authority no longer will say whether a shortage of nurses or doctors is to blame for the increasing number of diversions that are affecting the community in 2026.
The Emergency Department has been closed for a total of 20 days since mid-February.
